Storypulse™ and YouTube Studio

Storypulse™ is Casual Films’ platform for planning, checking and measuring business films. Every client we make films for can have a private dashboard that shows how those films are doing: what each film set out to do, how it is tracking against its target, and what we have learned for the next one.

Connecting YouTube Studio

Connecting is optional. The dashboard can show the numbers only a channel’s owner can see in YouTube Studio. The owner opens a one-time link from Casual, signs in with Google and gives read-only permission. Nothing is connected until they do. On Google’s permission screen the app is called Casual Storypulse.

With that permission, Storypulse™ reads, for the connected channel only:

  • watch time, for the channel and for each film;
  • how much of each film people watch, and the moments viewers stop watching;
  • where views come from, such as search, suggested videos or other websites, with paid views shown separately, including the search terms, websites and sharing services that brought viewers, as totals;
  • subscribers gained, and the likes, comments and shares each film received, as counts;
  • how often YouTube showed each thumbnail and how often it was clicked;
  • the audience in total: age bands, gender, countries and devices, never individual viewers.

It also reads which channel the Google account manages, to check it is the channel we expected. If it is not, nothing is connected.

What Storypulse™ cannot do

It cannot upload, edit, delete or comment on anything, and it cannot see the owner’s password, messages or any money figures.

Who sees the numbers

Only the client’s own dashboard and the Casual team working with them. We never sell YouTube data, publish a client’s Studio figures, or show one client’s numbers to another. Figures Casual works out from YouTube’s numbers, such as forecasts, are labelled as ours.

How long we keep them

The permission is stored encrypted and used only to fetch these numbers. The numbers are kept for up to 36 months, then deleted. If the owner disconnects through Casual, the permission is returned to Google and the numbers we hold are deleted at once. If the owner removes our access in their Google account, we delete them within 30 days.

Ending the connection

The owner can remove access for Casual Storypulse at any time on Google’s security settings page, or by emailing info@casualfilms.com.
